Two Halves

"The beauty in two halves is that they are equal

However--

searching for what the other side CONTAINS

what they are missing

but COINCIDE -- perfectly

Right where the edges seem rough

Because even though they seem broken in the middle

They make a whole when alone."

Cold Mornings

OAKLAND | CALIFORNIA

Fall has finally passed and Winter has arrived. Here in California unfortunately it isn't feeling much like Winter yet. This year just hasn't brought us much rain or snow. However, we have finally had some cold mornings which reminds me of some of my favorite memories as a child.

When I would wake up early...

I would roll out of bed, stepping onto the cold tile I would make my way down the hall toward the front door. As the sun would rise the light would slowly peek in thru the glass prism designs on the door creating rainbows which I would maneuver around as if I could ruin them. As the door opened a rush of cold air would swarm my face and instantaneously give my whole body chills. Yet I would linger, watching the leaves of grass start to gain color. Anything I would touch would immediately loose its icy feel. The sounds of the birds were magical, just like a movie. Then a passing car would get my attention. In time I would make my way back inside and watch the steam rise from the heated pool in the backyard eventually dipping my feet in.

These mornings are some of the most vivid memories I can remember. I can't even begin to explain how it felt but remembering such peace sure makes me miss it.

Driving With Me

Eastern Sierras | CALIFORNIA

Hello, you fine people you!

I am still feeling out my blog a little bit but I keep finding (at least thru some of my other social media) people asking more about me. Who I am & even what I look like since most of my photos are of other people and my adventures. I am a real person and sometimes social media makes it seem like a persona or fake. I thought this series could be really interesting by sharing a little bit more about myself but also having more of a personal connection with you when touching on other topics. Overall, I hope you all like this little YouTube series and continue on a journey with me as a passenger in my daily life.

In this first episode I talk about the possibility of road rage and how my musical talent is non existent. I talk about a beautiful bridal shower I attended, which was overall amazing (can't you tell by how many times I say amazing?!). I also touch on some other things like being shy & a blog post I read about being safe when traveling alone.

Subscribe to my channel to stay in the loop with new video posts and more in this series.

*The title photo is from the Eastern Sierras the video however is not. It is filmed in my little Honda around town.*

Silence

MONO LAKE | CALIFORNIA

I was never one for being dirty or dusty which is ironic since some of my favorite places seem to make me just that. Mono Lake being one of them. The times I had visited here I either want to sit down and enjoy the majesty of it all (which turns my butt white) or walk to the farthest point I can see (which gets my shoes & legs covered in "powder").

Besides all that, this place is perfect for silence; even when you happen to be surrounded by people during the high tourist season you can feel as if nothing else exists. Just you and the beauty of your surroundings. My favorite times here have been during sunset watching the golden light shine over the hills in the background of the tufa rock formations which are created due to the high volume of salt in the lake. They have a unique appeal and I can't seem to get enough.

Every season here seems to share something a little different than the others. I am already daydreaming of the first snow fall.

Living In The Today

LIVERMORE | CALIFORNIA

Everyday I wake up to find myself rolling out of bed wishing I could sleep longer. I am by no means a morning person. However, I love the feeling of not wasting time. Whenever I find myself getting up extra early or maybe awake to photograph a beautiful sunrise I feel happier & more vibrant than ever. My favorite mornings are those filled with fog, dew dripping on all the blades of grass beneath my feet, the need of having a blanket bundled upon my shoulders to keep me from shivering, and as I exhale a cloud of heat is exposed in front of me as if it were tangible.

These are the productive days. Now I don't mean that in the sense of getting chores done or another piece of work completed. I mean it in the sense of feeling accomplished, feeling like that moment of happiness is worth living. I am one of those theoretic people in which I contemplate the meaning of life on a rather consistent basis especially after losing my mother this year. That being said I love finding hidden beauty, the beauty stored in moments that make me remember that its okay to just live. Watching the smiles on peoples faces turn into laughter makes me feel complete.

Those are the enjoyable moments. The ones that make me live for each day, to live in today. Not worried about what is to come and why. Taking each moment and each day as in comes individually and doing all that I can with it. Filling every part of my day with something even if it is sadness because with sadness comes even greater happiness.

Today is my day to live. Join me.

Just Ask

JUNE LAKE LOOP | CALIFORNIA

I feel like I constantly narrate my own life. Speaking in a deep man voice (Morgan Freeman to be exact) telling myself the plot of my own story. The little details you think in your head but never want to say out loud & all the memories from your past that seemingly don't relate to whatever you were originally thinking. Yet it gives a clue to how you became your present self. Like when you go back in dialogue to the beginning of the story but you are in the middle of the movie.

I reflect on a period in my life when I used to get coffee with one of my friends normally once a month. Every time we would meet we would discuss what was new in our lives and those people we both knew. I'm one of those people that my ups always come with downs so I can normally talk your ear off, as long as I get past my annoying introverted self. Our conversations would normally last hours because of the stories we would discuss.

Anyhow, my point is, everyone has a story to tell. One we may find insignificant. One we may find alarming or too ostentatious for our own liking but a story nonetheless. It could be one you find intriguing. You just have to be willing to ask.

Being open and willing to listen to someone is one of the best gifts & I recommend giving it a go. After all you never know who you could meet or what you could possibly learn.

Little Details

VACAVILLE | CALIFORNIA

I recently did this shoot with some beautiful accessory pieces from Azil Boutique that I just adore. As I have mentioned previously I am addicted to jewelry & the little details that make an outfit complete.

Azil carries a variety of pieces in everyones price point, from sterling silver to 14k Gold & also leather goods and more (like the hat you see here). Let me tell you I have had bad experiences with some vermeil pieces not keeping their gold tones but these are great quality.

Their pieces are dainty and great for layering or add just a little pop to any outfit and I would easily get more for my personal collection.

They are stunning!

Before The I Do's

HALF MOON BAY | CALIFORNIA

One of the best moments in a woman's life is being engaged. Knowing they are going to marry the person of their dreams and planning one of the biggest parties of their life.

However, my favorite part is the moment the bride gets to look at herself for a minute... not to criticize herself but to reflect. Everything in her life made her who she is that day. That woman that is going to walk down the aisle is the woman that her spouse loves, thru anything, just the way she is. That is an amazing thing to wrap ones head around. I like to take those moments and capture them.

This is why I love bridal boudoir. It is an expression of this. It is the bride saying, "I am beautiful, I am sexy, I am me, and YOU love me!" Plus, I love weddings & the details so anything that gets me close to one makes me act like a little kid around cake.

Here are a couple shots from a bridal boudoir on the beach which I just loved and a couple detail ring/invitation shots for the same bride.

Maybe, Just Maybe

VACAVILLE | CALIFORNIA

I want to create, to build, or make something greater than me. Something sustainable, thru anything. It is hard to consider my life as something so small and insignificant. I want to be more than that, as many of us do. We want to be special- which is why we love movies like "Harry Potter", "Blind Side", and "Captain America". We take everything as life or death in our everyday moments and yet seem to never consider how small we actually are in this larger picture. We are but one piece in a gallery of work.

Pessimistic? Maybe.

Humans have tried to sustain an individual way of life for hundred and hundred of years and as life continues in the world we continue to change what was, to our present. Kings worshiped Gods and created these great temples which were to withstand time. Noah built a ship to withstand the greatest storm. Today we build larger buildings & even greater cities, in hopes our childrens children will be able to live in prosperity. We only see remains of so many places that once stood tall among beings. Yes, some have withstood till now - but for how long will they remain?

What can you create that is greater than a 100 lifetimes? More meaningful than 1000 lives? Is what we do, supposed to mean more? Is the world meant to eventually crumble? Is our only purpose to create happiness for ourselves?

Theologists only continue to yearn for an answer to these great questions yet the meaning of life still remains unanswered; no matter how we got here. Everything is a question. Everything is an if. The possibilities seem endless. However, today may be the day that answers it all.

Maybe, just maybe. . .

Thirty One Bits

SACRAMENTO | CALIFORNIA

My go to accessory has always been jewelry but who doesn't like a beautiful ring or twenty?

One of my favorite things about being a shopping addict besides finding awesome deals are finding great missions that go along with awesome products. Such as the proceeds going back to charity, to helping a cause, or even raising awareness. Those little phrases just pull me in every time.

Needless to say, 31 Bits is a great company that does just that. They started as a small group of friends helping 6 woman in Uganda to now helping over 150 woman. Not only do the sales of the jewelry help because they are creating jobs for these woman but they are beautifully and wonderfully made, out of recycled goods I may add. Yet, the pieces are colorful and still on trend for each season.

The other thing I love about the pieces are the minimal metal accents so you can pair them with any other pieces in your collection. They have a variety of styles from statement pieces to single bead pendants, really something for everyone.

Vintage Moment

San Francisco & Big Sur | California

Some people are meant for travel while others love to be homebodies. Either way sometimes we just have to stop & explore. Wether it be to travel the world or getting lost in a book and exploring the minds of imagination.

My exploration consists of the city around me along with the occational disappearances elsewhere. I love getting lost in the fog of San Francisco especially in the summer when the scorching heat takes over the neighboring towns. It is unbearably hot & let me say that I was made for a cooler climate. I love taking drives to the coast and venturing down Highway 1 thru Monterey, Carmel, and past Big Sur to the Central Coast.

I would love to one day be passenger in a cute little T-top or vintage convertible ("I'm a nineties baby in my eighties Mercedes." -Maren Morris) getting lost not only on back roads to little creeks and outstanding views but in the moments an adventure leads to.

My Grace Kelly moment with a scarf holding my hair back. How exquisite it would be. The rustling of the trees as the wind pushes past and the smell of the ocean lingering on my clothes. As we listen to the waves crashing on the rocks on the cliffs below.

The seaside calls to me.

What place calls to you? Better question, what path will you wonder next?

California Orange Grove

An Orange Grove | California

Sometimes the best places to shoot are stumbled upon. This particular weekend Christian and I ventured off in search of some landscapes. I must admit I was more along for the ride than anything but I was excited for whatever was to come.

I think it is always helpful to have an open mind when looking for a great shot or place to shoot because you aren't disappointed for what you don't find and see what is around you as an opportunity rather than a failure.

Anywho, we ended up passing this orange tree grove on the way to our destination. I had said something about it but decided not to stop. To my benefit we ended up turning around because the snow had prevented us from getting to our planned stop. We made it back to this grove before the light had set and this time I decided to stop. After all I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I had a blast shooting the last light in here. The only thing I was missing was a model but I enjoyed it either way. Something about the pop of color of fruit and trees that I love. Not only that is was something different to my everyday views.

I was very much pleased with the shots and wanted to share. I hope you enjoy my couple favorites.
